In honor of April as National Poetry Month, Earth Day and the release of my new book about seasons, A Symphony of Seasons, I'd like to share this poem with you. Please click on the title link to read more about it and another excerpt, "Like Flowers in the Spring." Enjoy the beauty of spring, each of the seasons, music, and be blessed!
Spring’s Resurrection
In spring the resurrection from winter’s cold tomb
Brings new life once again as flowers start to bloom.
All creation sings a joyous song of spring
As renewal of life brings fresh life to everything.
The earth’s crust is cracked by a hidden power,
And what emerges is a stem, leaf and flower.
The icy grave of winter where no life can be seen
Transforms into a vibrant, living carpet of green.
Fresh hope arrives with the springtime air
So our lives that once had seemed lifeless and bare,
Like the earth to which fresh life returns,
Can find the renewal for which the soul yearns.
Spring’s resurrection coincides with Easter too –
All life that has ended God is able to renew.
Christ conquered death, there’s no longer separation,
And we can join in singing the song of creation.

From the moment when Jesus was born,
His path was directed
toward Easter morn.
The miracle that began with his birth
Continued throughout his time here on earth.
The miracle of Easter from death to resurrection
Was accomplished as part of God’s plan of perfection.
At the dawn of that first Easter day
After the stone had been rolled away,
An empty tomb where Christ had been laid
Was evidence that the price had been paid.
The miracle of Easter, which led to salvation,
Brings renewal of life again to creation.

Sing a song of joy to the Lord
For the blessings which we receive,
Giving thanks for them and praying for more
Strength of faith to trust and believe.
Sing a song of love to the Lord,
Rejoice in the love He does give,
Letting joyful praise from us freely pour,
Giving thanks for the life we live.
Sing a song of praise to the Lord
For His goodness and wonderful love,
As our hearts gladly sing and our spirits soar
Lifting us through His love from above.

Love is worth more than words can express,
Bringing contentment and happiness,
Filling your heart with a satisfied glow,
As warmth and emotions into you flow.
Receiving love is extremely appealing,
Knowing you’re loved is a special feeling,
And when giving this gift to others as well,
It means more than you can ever tell.

Once the song of the year has ended,
And it seems that the music is done,
We awaken to another year
And a song that has just begun.
Our melody and the harmony
Of the year that has reached its conclusion
Have often brought knowledge and inspiration
But sometimes a note of confusion.
There’s more of life’s song to be sung,
The year’s end is only a rest,
And when following God’s direction the music
Can be the sweetest and best.

Each time we tell the Christmas story,
Recalling how Christ came down from glory,
We need to always keep in mind
That through Him peace and hope we can find.
As this tiny baby was born on earth,
Angels proclaimed Messiah’s birth,
Filling the heavens with praises and singing,
Rejoicing for all this child was bringing.
As the shepherds worshipped on bended knee,
We too should give thanks for this mystery,
That God would send His own Son from above
To save the world through this great gift of love.

Advent is a time to watch
And also to await
The coming of the Lord,
Which we gladly anticipate.
It’s a time to reflect on
The meaning of the season,
And the awe that comes from knowing
That Jesus is the reason.
As we light the Advent candles,
And with joy the carols sing,
May hearts be filled with hope and love
From the blessed King of Kings!

Thanksgiving isn’t just about eating
Or about families happily meeting,
Not just about turkey and pumpkin pie,
Or deciding whether to drive or fly.
It’s not just about gravy and dressing
But also for thankfulness, counting each blessing.
Getting together is a special reason,
But there is much more to the Thanksgiving season.
It’s a time to give thanks with hearts full of love
For the bountiful gifts that come from above,
To offer gratitude, worship and praise
To the giver of all things and all of our days.

The coolness felt in the crisp, clear air
proclaims that autumn is here,
and signals the splendid, complex transformation
of foliage is very near.
While varying colors so slowly creep
over mountain, forest and glen,
the sunshine no longer seems quite as warm
or as bright as it once had been.
The splashes of golden yellow and orange,
with tinges of purple and red,
create a colorful masterpiece,
as over the landscape they spread.
While leaves are falling in rustling heaps,
and dancing around in the breeze,
it's time to reflect on the seasons of life,
and the beauty of autumn to seize.

Words have power to hurt or heal.
A cutting remark we unpleasantly feel.
Words may stab deep into the heart,
When spoken by loved ones may tear us apart.
We don’t always realize the harm that is done
By our words, and should carefully choose each one.
Condemnation should not be what others hear,
So why not speak words of kindness and cheer?
It costs nothing more yet can do so much good
To speak helpful words the way that we should.
Life is more pleasant when what is heard
Is a loving, gentle, encouraging word.
